My movement style is a product of a late departure from classical ballet, and a subsequent investigation and exploration of an increasingly varied range of modern and contemporary forms. With a heavy dose of post-modern influence, and a strong theatrical sensibility, my practice oscillates between explorations of movement for movement's sake (manifested through spatial and temporal relationships, sensation of weight/gravity/momentum as initiators of motion) and manners of expression (What can be communicated through a simple gesture? How can the orientation of the body/speed of movement/repetition alter the meaning? How can common/everyday movement be exploited and subverted?). My artistic practice is always interested in the process above all else. Time spent researching in the studio, especially alongside collaborators, is always more joyful and valuable to me than time spent performing or seeing my work arrive on a stage.
